Ok according to these screen comparisons the 2013 blu ray is the superior version, to every 4k reviewer who has over-exagerated how good the 4k is, you are clearly supporting a gimmick. The colours are far too muted on the 4k, not to mention the bright lights are over-exposed. Pay particular attention to the yellow prison outfits, they are more vibrant on the standard blu ray, plus Tommy Lee Jones red jumper at 7.50 is completely washed out on the 4k version. I am sticking to the 2013 blu ray thank you for the comparison video.

Can i ask you a question does your 4k comparison have VRR and VRRC turned on or off. For new people new to 4k please turn off VRR and VRRC Its messes with color sync. If you have these turned on. VRR. Variable refresh rate limits the 4k refresh rate. VRRC Variable refresh rate color limits color spectrum Dont trust any review on youtube until they do this.

The 4K is how I remember it in 77. Lucas pumped up the saturation for the SE versions but it originally was always a bit desaturated, dirty and grungy.

I saw this in Cinerama Super Panavision 70 numerous times when first released in 1968, (I guess that makes me old), and no home video version I have seen (including this 4K version) can compare to that theatrical experience! I've seen some restored Cinerama films in the Smilebox format and that does begin to approach that experience so why isn't this in Smilebox?. Somebody even made a Smilebox trailer and uploaded it to You Tube (check it out). For color reference I remember how screaming bright those Dim chairs were in the space station (but I don't recall the flesh tones being so red.) Also no mention of that spectacular soundtrack from this masterpiece, my ears are still ringing from when the "computer" malfunctioned! and everybody in the audience jumped! Also has anybody found that lady's Cashmere sweater left in the Howard Johnson's on the space station? that multi track detail is lost in all the video versions I have seen. Here's hoping a restoration will come in Smilebox with accurate colors and that multi track sound restored to its original grandeur with accurate color and detail as Kubrick designed it.

Nice job on the remaster Moon. The contrast and color truly give this a nice pop, and its nice to see that the AI didnt degrade the integrity of the image while still giving it a nice uptick. This is a movie well known for its Sharp visuals and Cinematography. And this 4K upscale really accentuates that

The sunburst was the only major difference, and the rest was so subtle -- was expecting much better!

The 4K disc is so disappointing. It’s over sharpened , has too much DNR, is waxy and is A.I generated. It doesn’t look natural or film like. Very fake looking. I’ll stick with the Blu-Ray.

Can the filmmakers make it less blurry? I'm sorry if that is a silly question. It just seems so grainy.

That isn't the 2019 Blu-ray. That's the 2011 Blu-ray. I want to see how the new transfers differ from each other.

I know purists hate it but the original Bluray versions pop so much better imo. If i wanted the washed out blurry orignals ill just bust out my VCR.

It is too contrast boosted. AI detail is a slight improvement, but whoever is doing the upscaling needs to tone down the contrast. But at least it isn't "teal and orange"ed!

There are plenty of shots where they stick pretty close to the color timing of the original… and there are shots where they just can’t help but teal it up: 12:10 and 12:50 Maybe someone could create an edit with the perfect color timing for these releases keeping to natural colors as much as possible.
